According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Colts are shipping Nelson off to the Seahawks in what amounts to the first big trade ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline.

“Trade: Colts have agreed to send eight-time Pro-Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks, per me and (Ian Rapoport). Nelson is on an expiring contract and the Colts are opting to get back draft capital now before they could lose him in free agency,” he said.

Schefter did not immediately reveal the return for Indy.

Ever since the Colts’ season went into a downward spiral and the team decided to fire general manager Chris Ballard, they have been widely viewed as a top sell candidate.

Well, that has now been confirmed.

It made sense to move Nelson with the Colts likely set to rebuild. The veteran guard is on the final year of his contract and chances are he would have left in the offseason.

The Seahawks had a clear need at guard during a season in which they are looking to repeat as Super Bowl champs.

Nelson fills that need in a big way. The Colts great has been an elite guard in the NFL ever since he entered the league, as evidenced by his eight Pro Bowl nods and six All-Pro selections, three of which were first-team nods.

In 2026, Nelson is still playing at an elite level.

The 30-year-old has posted Pro Football Focus grades of 85.7 overall, 82.3 in run-blocking and 81.9 in pass-blocking, which rank third, seventh and third among guards.

He has not surrendered a single sack and has given up just six pressures in 275 pass-blocking snaps.

Now, it’ll be interesting to see how Nelson is deployed.

He has played left guard during his career with the Colts, but Grey Zabel, the Seahawks’ 2025 first-round pick, is the starter there in Seattle, so it appears Nelson might be switching sides.
