England and Sri Lanka head to The Oval on Sunday with their ODI series tied at 1-1 and everything still to play for.
Sri Lanka kept their tour of England alive with a 16-run win at Headingley on Thursday after they lost all three T20Is and the first ODI at Chester-le-Street.
Kusal Mendis was the man spearheading that turnaround. He struck 121 from 100 balls, his first century in England, and put on 137 with Kamindu Mendis, who made 54. Between them, the pair took Sri Lanka to 321/6, their best total against England in this format since 2018.
England, set 322 to win, looked well placed at 253/4 before Jos Buttler's hamstring gave way on 67. That injury has ruled him out of the decider, and it also cost them on Thursday as Sri Lanka's death bowlers held their nerve and closed out the match with England 16 runs short.

England will need to regroup at The Oval but they still hold plenty of cards in their favour.
Buttler's absence will definitely hurt but it leaves a gap both behind the stumps and in the middle order, yet this is a squad with no shortage of firepower elsewhere.
Ben Duckett and Tom Banton showed at Headingley that they can take any attack apart in the powerplay and Will Jacks proved once again that he has the game to finish an innings under pressure.
Sri Lanka have leaned heavily on Kusal Mendis in this ODI series, and if England can find a way to shut him down early, the rest of that batting order still looks there for the taking.
