Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli becomes Chelsea’s youngest ever Premier League player

There wasn’t much to celebrate from Chelsea’s last game before the international break, a 3-0 defeat at Brentford on Friday night, but we did get a professional debut late on for young Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli, who became our youngest ever Premier League player in the process.

Jody Morris had held this specific record since 1996 when he made his debut aged 17 years and 44 days. Nicoll-Jazuli comfortably beat that at 16 years and 255 days. He’s the first 16-year-old to play for Chelsea in the Premier League and the first player born in the 2010s to play in the competition overall. He’s no stranger to such records, having already become our UEFA Youth League player and goalscorer at 15.
That said, he’s not even the youngest player to play for us this season in all competitions, with Reggie Watson (16 years, 226 days) making his full debut against Leeds United in the League Cup the week prior. And they both trail Reggie Walsh (16 years, 193 days), who had made his debut in the UEFA Conference League back in May 2025, becoming our youngest player in a European competition.
All told, there are now nine 16-year-olds to have represented the Blues throughout our history and only two of them were younger than Mahdi or either of the two Reggies, both from 1967: Ian Hamilton (16 years, 138 days) and Kingsley Whiffen (16 years, 157 days). They would combine for a grand total of six appearances between themselves in the end, so hopefully less trivial fates await our recent teenage debutants.
