ANAHEIM, Calif.— What are we going to gather from that?
The San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks, both making their pre-season debuts on Sunday afternoon, took decidedly different approaches to their line-ups.

The Ducks, playing at home, dressed their stars, Leo Carlsson, Cutter Gauthier, Mikael Granlund, Beckett Sennecke, and Jackson Lacombe. The Sharks…did not.

The Ducks, predictably, ran these Sharks all over the ice, winning 6-2, led by a Sennecke natural hat trick.
That said, some of these Sharks are vying to be on the opening night roster, and head coach Ryan Warsofsky discussed them post-game.
Here’s what the San Jose Sharks bench boss had to say about Eric Pohlkamp and Nolan Allan, who look to round out the defense. Also, Warsofsky shared some thoughts on Sam Dickinson and Leo Sahlin-Wallenius.
Dickinson is a lock for the opening night roster, but this varsity Ducks squad was a good test to assess how much he’s improved over the summer. Meanwhile, for 2024 second-rounder Sahlin-Wallenius, this was basically his North American pro debut
On Pohlkamp: “I liked a lot of things that he did.
“Just moved pucks. Let the game come to him. If there was an opportunity to get up the ice, he did it. Wasn’t trying to do too much. Things that we’ve talked to him about. He used his legs to get out of trouble.
“[But] there’s a lot of work to do.”
On Allan: “Did some good things, poised. Some things we can clean up, but step in the right direction.
“Had a slow start to camp and starting to pick up here a little bit. The pace is going to pick up, and you’re getting a lot of information thrown at you. There’s a lot going on in our meetings and through practices. You really got to be mentally focused and ready to go to execute, and on top of it, do the things that you’re good at to stick out.”
On Dickinson: “Did some good things. Did some things that we still got to continue to work on.”
On what Dickinson can improve, including his read on Gauthier on LaCombe’s goal: “Those reads, those rush reads, scanning the ice.
“[Later], he comes out behind the net, wheels the net, really good, but doesn’t get his eyes up quick enough to make a play. Those are the things that we got to clean up.”
On Sahlin-Wallenius: “You can definitely see the ability to play with some poise, make plays. He’s a smart individual. He saw a high-paced hockey game and good experience for him to go through it. You see the tools.”
