Here are our takeaways from Ferentz's Tuesday press conference.
Iowa football injury updates
Ferentz revealed that tight end DJ Vonnahme will not be available against UNI this week.
The coach mentioned the physicality of the win over Iowa State and added that a few players will be day-by-day, including running back Kamari Moulton, who left the game against the Cyclones in the fourth quarter to head to the medical tent. He also said running back L.J. Phillips is getting better and is making "good progress."
"We'll just see how it progresses as the week goes on," Ferentz said. "Guys are sore."
Ferentz also said that defensive back Tyler Brown is starting to get some work in, though he doesn't know if he will be back for the UNI game.
Hank Brown will likely start at QB for Iowa football vs UNI
Quarterback Hank Brown played every offensive snap against Iowa State after splitting time in the first game of the season with Jeremy Hecklinski. Ferentz said that Brown will likely be the starter against UNI, but it's subject to change. Coaches still believe Hecklinski is doing a good job and they are continuing to play the QB situation by ear.
"They're doing a good job in practice," Ferentz said. "I feel confident that we're going to play well with either one of them in there."
Iowa football vs UNI preview
Ferentz talked about UNI's quarterback, Jaxon Dailey, mentioning that he throws the ball well and is also a threat on the run.
"They are an aggressive team," Ferentz said. "It's a little tough in these first couple weeks getting a feel for the team, but last year a couple plays that stood out. Good coaching and good effort by the players, and that's what we're expecting on Saturday."
Plans to honor former UNI player Parker Sutherland, who died on Feb. 14 after collapsing in a workout with a sudden cardiac arrest
Sutherland was an Iowa City native who played tight end for UNI before his passing. Ferentz said that the program has plans in place to honor him.
"Two weeks in a row we're talking about a really sad subject," Ferentz said. "It's a tough deal. We have our plans to pay tribute to them. We'll do that privately. Our hearts and thoughts are with everybody involved. Certainly his family first and foremost. It sounds like he touched a lot of people."
Ferentz did not want to act like he knew Sutherland, but he knows Rick Nelson, a line coach at UNI, who shared with Ferentz some of the details about the type of person Sutherland was.
"He talked about the kind of person he was," Ferentz said. "Not only just as a good football player, but the outstanding young person, so it's just a really sad thing."
