The top-ranked golfer in the world wrapped up the PGA Tour’s season with a win at the Tour Championship in Sunday afternoon. Scheffler posted a 4-under 66 in the final round in Atlanta, which gave him a three-shot win over Viktor Hovland and the rest of the field.

That officially gave Scheffler the FedExCup title and a $10 million check, part of the $40 million purse that was up for grabs this week in the third and final playoff event of the Tour’s postseason.

Scheffler is now just the third player to win multiple FedExCup titles, along with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

Hovland entered the final round with a one-shot lead over the field, though he bogeyed the opening hole and lost his advantage almost instantly. Scheffler, meanwhile, birdied two of his first four holes of the day — including a near-ace on the par-3 second.

But unlike he has plenty of times in his career, Scheffler didn’t run away with the tournament. He and Hovland stayed in near lockstep through the back nine, until Scheffler sank an 11-foot birdie putt at the 16th. That briefly gave him a two-shot advantage, and ended up being just enough to power him to the win.

Scheffler finished at 16-under on the week to grab his win. Hovland finished alone in second at 13-under, and Ryan Gerard finished in third.

Only the top 30 golfers in the FedExCup standings earned a spot in the Tour Championship field, though J.J. Spaun withdrew during the opening round due to a shoulder injury. With the massive $40 million purse, even last-place finisher Gary Woodland is walking away with a six-figure payday.

Scheffler has now won 22 times on Tour in his career. He’s won three times now this season, too, first at The American Express back in January and then earlier this month with his eight-shot win at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Scheffler also surpassed Woods and became the PGA Tour’s all-time earnings leader. Scheffler entered the Tour Championship roughly $600,000 shy of the nearly $121 million that Woods has earned throughout his playing career. Those two, along with McIlroy, are the only three golfers in Tour history who have surpassed the $100 million mark.
