The Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup delivered plenty of talking points for Real Madrid fans, with several Los Blancos stars playing decisive roles for their national teams.
Brazil, France and Morocco all advanced to the Round of 16, ensuring that a significant Real Madrid presence remains in the competition.
Meanwhile, Germany and the Netherlands saw their campaigns come to an abrupt end despite impressive individual displays from some of their players.
Vinicius Jr., Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouaméni were among the standout performers, while Antonio Rudiger and Denzel Dumfries endured painful eliminations.
Brahim Diaz, meanwhile, was on the winning side as Morocco eliminated the Netherlands.

Vinicius Jr. may not have registered a goal or an assist in Brazil’s 2-1 victory over Japan, but his influence on the game was undeniable.
The Real Madrid forward constantly troubled Japan’s defensive line and played a crucial role in Brazil’s comeback victory.
It was his effort on goal that ultimately led to Brazil’s equaliser, underlining his importance despite not appearing on the scoresheet.
Throughout the contest, Vinicius remained Brazil’s most dangerous attacking outlet, using his pace and dribbling ability to stretch the opposition.
His physical condition also stood out, as Vinicius reached a top speed of 33.2 km/h during the match, although defender Marquinhos narrowly surpassed him by recording Brazil’s fastest sprint at 33.8 km/h.
Antonio Rudiger vs Paraguay
Antonio Rudiger delivered a commanding defensive performance despite Germany’s heartbreaking elimination against Paraguay.
The Germans exited the tournament after losing 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw, ending what had been a resilient display from Julian Nagelsmann’s side.
Rudiger played 110 minutes before being substituted and was arguably Germany’s most reliable defender throughout the encounter.
The Real Madrid centre-back produced six important clearances, dominated aerial duels and consistently imposed himself physically against Paraguay’s forwards.
He also remained composed in possession and rarely looked troubled when Germany were under pressure.
Unfortunately for Rudiger, his strong individual showing was not enough to prevent Germany from joining the list of major nations eliminated from the tournament.

Denzel Dumfries suffered a painful World Cup exit as the Netherlands were knocked out by Morocco in dramatic circumstances.
After a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes, Morocco prevailed 3-2 in the penalty shootout to secure a place in the Round of 16.
Dumfries completed the entire match and remained heavily involved in attacking phases.
The Dutch wing-back recorded six touches inside the opposition penalty area, more than any other Netherlands player, while also registering one shot and delivering two crosses.
As has often been the case throughout his career, Dumfries covered enormous ground and continued making forward runs until the final whistle.
Despite his tireless effort down the right flank, the Netherlands were unable to avoid elimination.
Brahim Diaz vs Netherlands
Brahim Diaz was part of the Morocco side that progressed at the expense of the Netherlands, although his own performance was relatively subdued.
The Real Madrid attacker started the match and remained on the pitch for 79 minutes before being replaced.
While Morocco ultimately celebrated qualification, Diaz struggled to stamp his authority on proceedings.
He had limited involvement in Morocco’s attacking build-up and found it difficult to influence the game in advanced areas.
Compared to some of Morocco’s other attacking players, the Real Madrid forward was less effective and endured one of his quieter outings of the tournament.

Kylian Mbappe once again reminded the football world why he remains one of the leading contenders for the Golden Boot.
The Real Madrid superstar scored twice as France cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Sweden.
Mbappe opened the scoring shortly before halftime before adding his second goal in the 74th minute to seal qualification.
The brace also allowed him to continue rewriting World Cup history.
It marked Mbappe’s fourth career multi-goal performance in a knockout-stage World Cup match, twice as many as any other player in the competition’s history.
The Frenchman has now scored 18 goals in as many World Cup appearances. Furthermore, with his brace, the Real Madrid forward now has 10 goals in the World Cup knockout stage, which is now a record in its own.
Right now, the Frenchman is tied with Lionel Messi for most goals at 2026 World Cup (6).
Aurelien Tchouameni vs Sweden
Aurelien Tchouameni enjoyed another excellent outing in France’s midfield during their dominant win over Sweden.
Operating alongside Adrien Rabiot in a double pivot, the Real Madrid midfielder dictated the rhythm of the match from deep positions.
Tchouameni completed 93% of his passes and played an important role in France’s second goal.
Defensively, he was equally impressive, breaking up Swedish counter-attacks and protecting the backline effectively.
His positional awareness and composure in possession allowed France to control proceedings for long periods.
