Former Texas A&M star Jace LaViolette finding rhythm after lost season

· Yahoo Sports

Texas A&M career home run record holder Jace LaViolette is riding the expected highs and lows of minor league baseball after missing an entire season due to a late‑season hand injury that required multiple surgeries. Now fully healthy and finally stacking real at‑bats, the former Aggie star is beginning to show the same elite power that defined his time in Aggieland.

If there’s one thing LaViolette became synonymous with in Bryan‑College Station, it was sending baseballs into orbit. He didn’t just break the Aggies’ career home run record; he obliterated it, smashing 68 homers across three seasons. That power still plays, but like many young hitters adjusting to pro pitching, the transition hasn’t been seamless.

Through his first 88 at‑bats, LaViolette is slashing .193/.311/.720, numbers that leave room for growth but also reflect how early it still is in his development curve. The biggest hurdle right now is the swing‑and‑miss. He has 43 strikeouts in 88 at‑bats, essentially punching out in nearly every other trip to the plate.

But when he connects, he does damage. Of his 17 hits, four are doubles and five are home runs, a reminder that his raw power remains elite. Clean up the strikeout rate even modestly, and he profiles as a true extra‑base machine.

It’s also important to remember the context. Even though he was drafted in 2025, this is effectively his first extended look at high‑level pitching since the SEC Tournament nearly two years ago. Rust, timing, and pitch recognition take time, especially after a lost season.

Once LaViolette fully settles in and adjusts to the speed of the pro game, the tools that made him a first‑round pick will start to shine more consistently. And when that happens, pitchers across the minors better be ready.
