Barcelona open to keeping club veteran for another season

According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona are highly satisfied with the performances and overall contribution of Wojciech Szczęsny, with the current intention being to keep him at the club beyond this season.

Szczęsny, who still has one year left on his contract, arrived with experience and reliability—and he has delivered exactly that.

While Barcelona technically have the option to terminate his deal by paying compensation, reportedly around €2 million, the internal feeling within the club is in favour of continuity.

Barcelona are more than happy

Much of this confidence stems from his consistent work done in training.

The club’s goalkeeping coach, Jose Ramon de la Fuente, has been particularly impressed with the Polish international’s professionalism and daily commitment.

In fact, there is a belief within the coaching staff that Szczęsny’s level has improved over time, rather than declined.

Inside the dressing room, his experience and composed personality have made him a respected figure.

This combination of sporting reliability and strong character has placed him within Barcelona’s squad planning for next season.

It’s not too simple

However, the situation is not entirely straightforward, as much depends on what happens with Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The veteran goalkeeper is under contract until 2028 and any major decision regarding the goalkeeping structure will inevitably involve discussions around his role and long-term future.

At the same time, Barcelona are also exploring the market for an additional goalkeeper, with Alex Remiro emerging as a leading candidate.

Despite these moving pieces, one thing remains clear: Szczęsny’s continuity is very much on the table.

There is strong mutual understanding between the player and the club, and the relationship has been described as seamless.
