There have been some comments about what Bryce Harper looks like as a player over the past year and a half, and a lot of it is very unfair. Philadelphia Phillies president Dave Dombrowski even came out and made a ridiculous comment about Harper not being elite any longer at this stage of his career during the offseason. Unfortunately for the Phillies, that comment was taken to an extreme level, and rightfully so, after making a comment about a player of Harper's status.
Looking ahead, it remains uncertain what the Phillies want to do on that front, but his agent, Scott Boras, is looking for a contract extension. Harper has said plenty of times that he wants to finish his career in Philadelphia and is looking to get paid once again.
According to Boras, it sounds like there have already been some discussions about that.
“In my discussions with (Phillies owner) John (Middleton) and Dave (Dombrowski), they’re fully aware that Bryce has a legacy that he wants to fulfill in Philadelphia beyond the current contract,” Boras said, per Scoutt Lauber. “And we’ve already had discussions about that as we go forward.”
Boras is the best at saying a lot but not saying a whole bunch. He noted here that there have been some discussions with higher-ups in the Phillies organization, but he didn't exactly give us any thoughts about what might actually be going on.
For all we know, the Phillies might be telling Boras that they want nothing to do with Harper, or they could be working on a massive extension to keep him around even longer than he already is under contract for.
