There’s a bit of a strange situation for Duke Women’s Basketball right now.

Visit mchezo.co.za for more information.

Originally scheduled to play North Texas in San Antonio, hometown of Arianna Robertson and Bella Flemming, the game was canceled.

According to Raleigh’s News & Observer, Duke put out this statement: “Due to circumstances beyond the control of the participating institutions, the women’s basketball game between Duke and North Texas scheduled for Nov. 8 in San Antonio will not be played.”

Duke scrambled to fill the spot and will be playing FAU instead. The Owls will now play Saturday and Sunday, which is obviously tough, but given the situation, FAU may get a financial bonus. Duke tried to sell a home game but found no takers. It’s possible that Florida Atlantic may get a bonus out of it, but that hasn’t been announced if so.

No one has said specifically what happened, but Duke and North Texas seem to be on the same side, with nearly identical statements, so you get the sense that the organizers of “The Foundry Classic” screwed up somehow.

All’s well that ends well, more or less, but now the Blue Devils will pay an unfamiliar opponent on short notice and with little preparation. If Kara Lawson is as smart as she seems to be, she’ll sell this as an opportunity to get ready for tournament conditions.
