How Bill Belichick, North Carolina performed against Duke
Bill Belichick looks to make a statement in Year 2 with North Carolina. Halfway through 2026, it seems the Tar Heels have made great progress after beating Duke in Week 7.
North Carolina did most of its damage throughout the first half. They outmatched Duke in that frame as they led 17-7 at halftime. Duke attempted a rally by outscoring the Tar Heels 13-7 in the last 30 minutes of regulation, but it wasn’t enough as the visitors held on to the win.
Billy Edwards Jr. had a decent showing leading the offense. He completed 15 out of 25 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown while rushing nine times for 20 yards.
Jaylen McGill had a strong display in the run game, racking up 12 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown. Demon June came next with 13 rushes for 49 yards and a touchdown, while Jordan Shipp led receivers with seven catches for 75 yards and a touchdown.
The Tar Heels will look forward to their next matchup, being at home. They host the Syracuse Orange in Week 8 as kickoff commences on Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
