According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cardinals informed Harrison on Saturday that he would not play in Sunday’s Week 5 matchup against the Detroit Lions as the organization works through the details of a potential trade.
“Breaking: the Arizona Cardinals are finalizing a deal to trade WR Marvin Harrison, sources tell me and @RapSheet. The team informed Harrison this morning that he will be inactive for Sunday’s game vs Detroit as details of the trade are finalized,” Schefter reported on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Shortly afterward, Schefter identified Houston as one of the teams involved in discussions with Arizona, although no agreement has been announced.
“One team that has had Marvin Harrison trade talks with Arizona is Houston, sources tell me and @rapsheet. Houston has been, and is thought to be, square in the mix for Harrison. But as one Texans source said about the team’s interest in Harrison, ‘I can’t confirm or deny at this time.'”

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport also addressed the possibility of Harrison joining Houston, highlighting a potential reunion with quarterback C.J. Stroud.
“If it ends up being the #Texans, Marvin Harrison Jr. would be reunited with his college QB CJ Stroud. But as of right now, no trade is finalized,” Rapoport reported.
Texans could reunite Marvin Harrison Jr. with C.J. Stroud
Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn ImagesA potential trade to Houston would reunite Harrison with Stroud, his former Ohio State teammate from 2021-22.
The two developed a productive connection during their time with the Buckeyes, particularly in 2022, when Harrison recorded 77 receptions for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns while catching passes from Stroud.
Their familiarity could provide an immediate foundation for Houston’s passing attack, which has struggled to generate consistent production through the opening four games of the 2026 season.
Harrison, meanwhile, has experienced a disappointing start to his third NFL campaign. Through four games, the 24-year-old has recorded just five receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown on 13 targets under first-year Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur.
Arizona selected Harrison fourth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. He finished his rookie season with 62 receptions for 885 yards and eight touchdowns before injuries limited him to 41 catches for 608 yards and four touchdowns across 12 games in 2025.
Previous reporting from Tom Pelissero indicated that Arizona was seeking a second-round draft pick and additional compensation, potentially another mid-round selection, in exchange for Harrison.
For Houston, acquiring Harrison would provide Stroud with another young receiving option as the franchise attempts to reverse its winless start.
The Texans will visit the Tennessee Titans (0-4) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CBS, with both AFC South teams searching for their first victory of the season.
While Houston remains among the reported contenders for Harrison, his destination and the terms of any potential deal have yet to be confirmed.
