Hukporti seemed to sustain a calf injury during the 76ers’ preseason opener against the Knicks and had to be helped off the court.

But it was this moment that showcased what a class act Karl-Anthony Towns is, as he helped his former teammate almost instantly.

NBA fans show respect to Karl-Anthony Towns for helping Ariel Hukporti, but question LeBron James’ reaction

Ariel Hukporti’s injury drew players not just from the Philadelphia 76ers bench, but also from the New York Knicks bench.

In particular, Karl-Anthony Towns, who played with Hukporti last season to help bring the Knicks a championship, aided the big man as he tried to limp off the court.

Almost instantly, fans reacted to this clip, with many applauding Towns for the care and sportsmanship he showed to his former teammate.

One fan wrote, “Classy! Just goes to show you the brotherhood trumps the fan rivalry all day, any day!! Love to see this type of stuff.”

A second fan referenced Hukporti’s time in New York, saying, “Once a Knick, always a Knick.”

A third fan raised some concern for Hukporti’s injury, noting, “Shoutout KAT for helping him off, but non-contact lower leg injuries are easily the scariest sight in sports.”

However, some fans were concerned as to why LeBron James, who didn’t play against the Knicks, was spotted grinning and laughing as Hukporti was helped off.

“Bron just laughing and doing nothing,” wrote a fourth fan, admonishing the 76ers superstar for not doing more to help his injured teammate.

A fifth fan had an even more aggressive reaction, saying, “Meanwhile, his b** teammate LeBron is just laughing away while KAT carries him off. Yet another classless act by LeBron James.”

And lastly, one fan suggested that LeBron’s critics were “gonna have a field day with this” visual, as it wasn’t a good look.

For context, James was seemingly laughing after a conversation he had with Knicks assistant coach and Jalen Brunson’s father, Rick.

While that might be his defence on the matter, there is no denying that James probably shouldn’t have been looking so jovial while his teammate was being helped off with a serious injury.

Regardless of the laughter, all plaudits should go to Karl-Anthony Towns for helping Hukporti, displaying a level of sportsmanship everyone in the NBA should aspire to live up to.
