Aaron Judge could not find enough words to describe the New York Yankees’ pitching staff after they swept the Boston Red Sox in the AL Wild Card Series. The Yankees advanced to the AL Division Series with a 9-2 victory Wednesday, completing a 2-0 series sweep.

New York outscored Boston 18-2 across the two games while holding the Red Sox to seven total hits.

Judge, who has been sidelined with a strained right calf, watched the series from the dugout. After Wednesday’s win, he praised the pitching staff for consistently keeping Boston’s lineup under control.

“Just so proud of these boys,” Judge said. “Up and down the lineup, you can go through the whole pitching staff. You know what our starters did for us was huge, handed off our bullpen. It’s just amazing grit out of this team. You know, it kind of still made it there for a little bit. But then, ultimately, that offense breaks out. Our pretty chance gives us a chance. So last night it was Ben Rice tonight. It was Cody Bellinger with some big hits.”

The Yankees’ offense also produced in both games. After scoring nine runs in Game 1, New York collected 14 hits Wednesday. Cody Bellinger provided one of the biggest blows with a three-run homer in the sixth inning that pushed the Yankees’ lead to seven.

Judge has been working toward a potential return for the ALDS. He took live batting practice Wednesday with the Yankees’ stay-ready group after being sidelined since Sept. 16.

New York will face the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS if Judge is cleared to return. Game 1 is scheduled for Saturday.
