Vikings Linked to Bizarre Potential Quarterback Trade
· Yahoo Sports
The Minnesota Vikings recently decided to trade young quarterback J.J. McCarthy to the New York Giants in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round draft pick. After using the No. 10 overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft on McCarthy, it was a big-time loss for the franchise.
McCarthy missed his entire rookie season after suffering a knee injury during preseason play. Ahead of the 2025 season, the Vikings chose to let Sam Darnold walk in free agency and handed the keys to McCarthy. The results weren’t great.

During the 2025 season, McCarthy ended up dealing with multiple injury issues and playing in 10 games. He completed 57.6 percent of his pass attempts for 1,632 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, while also running for 181 yards and four more scores.
At just 23 years old, cutting him loose was a difficult decision for Minnesota. However, the Vikings have Kyler Murray as their clear-cut starter with veteran signal caller Carson Wentz backing him up.
With that being said, Minnesota has been connected as a potential suitor for a bizarre quarterback trade.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has named the Vikings as one of the possible destinations for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph.
Rudolph would come in as Minnesota’s No. 3 quarterback. It’s a move that wouldn’t make a ton of sense for many reasons.
First and foremost, the Vikings don’t need to trade any draft capital to acquire a No. 3 quarterback. Wentz has performed well when called upon as the primary backup. Max Brosmer is still on the roster as the team’s emergency quarterback.
Minnesota simply shouldn’t invest more into its quarterback room for the 2026 season.
At the end of the day, Rudolph is a quality depth quarterback. He has played in 35 career games, completing 64.3 percent of his pass attempts for 4,925 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 22 interceptions. He has also picked up 212 yards and scored a touchdown on the ground.
While the Vikings may have traded away one quarterback, it just doesn’t make any sense for them to pursue a trade to bring in another.
