Aqib Talib on Josh Wallace’s DPI: ‘It’s a black and white rule’

Former Denver Broncos cornerback and Super Bowl 50 champion Aqib Talib just doesn't see what all the fuss is about over Los Angeles Rams cornerback Josh Wallace's "controversial" defensive pass interference penalty late in the fourth quarter of Sunday Night Football in Week 3.

Talib and No Lie Zone podcast co-host Ryan Koenigsberg broke down the play.

"Pass interference, or not pass interference," Koenigsberg asked Talib. "As a defensive back, this has kind of got to be a tough place for you to be."

"It's really not, RK," Talib said. "It's really not, man. If you slow it down, you can make it look like, 'Oh, he's barely touching him.' But watch it fast motion: (Wallace is) beat a little bit, he runs, he catch up, he like start pushing him, he started push him out the way to try to get to the ball. The rules are not cursive, or unreadable, the rules is black and white.

"If you touch him after five yards, it's illegal contact. He did that. If you push him while the ball's in the air, it's pass interference. He did that. So we could call it either one of those calls on this!"

Talib joins fellow Super Bowl 50 teammate T.J. Ward, pundit Mike Florio and former NFL quarterback Chris Simms in saying the penalty should have been called.

While the play itself created some controversy, the Broncos went on to win the game. The Rams gave up 30 second-half points and two interceptions, and they couldn't stop the Denver offense after the break. It wasn't just one call that decided the game.

"It's a black and white rule, bro," Talib said.

Hopefully this analysis and time will put this all to bed. In the meantime, the Broncos will prepare to face the NFC West-leaning San Francisco 49ers in Week 4.
