Mile Svilar was one of the top goalkeepers Juventus wanted to add to their squad in the last transfer window, with the Bianconeri reportedly willing to pay €40 million for the AS Roma goalkeeper.
Juventus were keen to sign a top goalkeeper after Luciano Spalletti decided that Michele Di Gregorio was not good enough to continue as his first choice. Several goalkeepers entered Juventus’ radar, and they attempted to secure a deal as quickly as possible.
Svilar rejects Juventus interest
The Bianconeri tried to tempt Svilar into leaving Rome and joining them, but the goalkeeper was not interested. He had signed a long-term contract with Roma and was not looking to change clubs during that transfer window.
Juventus ultimately failed in their efforts to lure him away and had to focus their attention elsewhere. However, Svilar was the goalkeeper they were reportedly prepared to spend heavily on, highlighting the level of interest they had in securing his services.
Speaking about Juventus’ interest, Tuttomercatoweb quoted him as saying: “I haven’t even had a conversation about it. I’m not someone who signs a contract extension until 2030 and then reneges on my decision the following year.”

Juventus still need a long-term solution
Svilar’s comments make it clear that he remained committed to his decision to sign a long-term contract with Roma. His refusal to consider a move meant Juventus had to continue looking for another goalkeeper who could take over the position for the long term.
The Bianconeri still need a strong goalkeeper to take up that role in the future, particularly after Spalletti’s concerns over Di Gregorio. Their unsuccessful pursuit of Svilar means they will have to consider other options when looking to strengthen the position.
Juventus may also be satisfied that they did not sign Emi Martinez, considering his struggles at Chelsea at the moment. With Svilar having remained in Rome, Juventus were unable to secure their preferred target, leaving the club with a continuing need to identify a goalkeeper capable of establishing himself as their long-term first choice.
