It’s hard to know what to make of the Chicago Bears right now. Ben Johnson’s squad looked like an absolute juggernaut in Week 1, dropping 59 points on the Carolina Panthers. But then they only scored three points during a home loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2 … in a game where Caleb Williams suffered a hamstring injury.
The Eagles are currently listed as 3.5-point road favorites against the Bears, according to FanDuel. One would imagine the Eagles would be underdogs if Williams was a sure bet to suit up for this Monday Night Football matchup.
If Williams can’t play, the Bears will be rolling with Tyson Bagent. The fourth-year signal caller hasn’t played much over the past two seasons after logging four starts as an undrafted rookie in 2023. He went 2-2 in those games with three passing touchdowns to six interceptions for a 73.0 passer rating. Bagent was active with his legs, logging 23 rushing attempts for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
Bagent has earned the Bears’ belief because he’s shined in preseason settings; he’s produced 10 total touchdowns to two interceptions over the past three summers. How much does that matter? Maybe not much since the regular season is an entirely different beast. But there are less inspiring backup options than Bagent. (See: Andy Dalton.)
The Eagles are 0-2 against the spread so far this season after failing to cover a 5.5-point home line against the Commanders and a seven-point road line against the Titans. Do you think they’ll beat the Bears comfortably enough to cover in this spot?
I feel really good about Jalen Hurts. But I have questions about this Eagles team when it comes to the trenches right now. Their defense could potentially get a boost if Jonathan Greenard is able to return for this game. I lean towards taking the points right now but I reserve the right to change my mind by next Monday. Maybe the Eagles will be out to make a statement after getting embarrassed by this Bears team on Black Friday last year.
