New York Mets fans seem to have no resentment about him signing with the Baltimore Orioles and appreciate what he did for the franchise in his time with them. Alonso also expressed his gratitude for the Mets fans after the game.
"Honestly, I’m very gracious and appreciative of all the years of support. It’s really special to have that,” Alonso said, per MLB.com's Jake Rill. “I care so much about leaving it all out on the field, really taking every opportunity and just giving it everything I have and emptying the tank every night. I’m glad that people appreciate that. For them to recognize and appreciate that continuously, it’s really special.”
Alonso spent seven seasons with the Mets, winning Rookie of the Year in 2019 and being named an All-Star five times. He is the franchise leader in home runs and, in 2024, provided Mets fans with an incredible postseason.
This season, Alonso has proven he was worth every penny for his new team. He leads the American League in RBIs, has played in every game and has 35 home runs. His batting average is also .268, so he has proven he can maintain a solid average without sacrificing his power.
Alonso went 0-for-3 on Monday, but the Orioles won the game 2-1. The Orioles have a chance to make the postseason, but they will need some help. They cannot control how the other wild card contenders play, but they can control what they do. They need to put together a great end to the regular season and let everything else play out. Alonso will need to play his best baseball in the next two weeks if the Orioles want to play in October.
