Mims didn't have to break a big punt return. All he had to do was not lose 98 yards. With two punt returns for 36 yards on Monday night, Mims hit the qualifying minimum number of punt returns required (75) to hold the NFL mark for the best yards-per-punt-return average in a career. Mims' career average surpassed 15.8, eclipsing New England Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones, who previously held the record of 14.3 yards-per-punt-return.
With Monday's stats in the books, Mims now has totaled 1,208 yards and scored one touchdown on 76 punt returns while adding 1,249 yards and another touchdown on 47 career kickoff returns. Mims also has 1,202 receiving yards and 150 rushing yards to his name, for a grand total of 3,809 all-purpose yards in just over three seasons of work.
Mims was selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft out of Oklahoma. Although Mims hasn't consistently been a full-time part of the offense, he has been a very effective returner, earning two Pro Bowl nods and All-Pro honors as a specialist in 2023 and 2024.
Mims is now in a contract year, and is looking to once again be a game-changer in the return game, and break into the offensive game plan as the Broncos move deeper into their 2026 schedule.
