Meanwhile, the scoreboard showed a 42-13 victory for the Wolves.
Chandler opened the floodgates with a 78-yard kickoff return touchdown by Maxwell Sprott at the end of the first half and then outscored Cathedral Catholic (San Diego, CA) 21-3 in the second half to pick up its first win of the season in a battle of ALL-USA players: West Region quarterback Mencl and wide receiver Jai Jones of Chandler against two-way five-star Dons RB/WR/DB Honor Fa'alave-Johnson.
Yet despite the Wolves' dominance in the second half, the team was unsatisfied by the penalties and three turnovers. At the end of the postgame handshake, Wolves players started talking trash to Cathedral Catholic, infuriating Wisdom.
"I think our talent level is there, obviously, but it is concerning when it's the self-inflicted stuff that we're choosing to do," he said. "We gotta grow. Right now we're just immature."
"A lot of shooting ourselves in the foot," Mencl added. "Stuff that's easily fixable."
Even with those self-described self-inflicted wounds — false starts on third-and-5, fumbling on the opening drive of the second half, letting opposing receivers get past the defensive backs — Chandler put down a good California team. It started when the offense opened up the field.

Mencl's stat line was extremely impressive, completing 16 of his 23 passes for 358 yards and four touchdowns while throwing one interception. The Oregon commit had a couple missed passes in the first half that would have built that line even more if they were on target, but the ball moved well down the field.
The second half started flowing with an up-tempo pace stimulated by the middle of the field opening up for the Wolves offense. Mencl attacked the middle aggressively, with long touchdowns coming from mid-range passes and the receiver seeing and exploding toward the green.
"Their backers were playing pretty wide, dropping different things, they give us a lot of different fronts," Wisdom said.
"We love taking what the defense gives us, we'll take free shots all night," Mencl said.
Jones had 85 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. He was one of three WRs to have a receiving touchdown, alongside Sprott and Easton Arreola. Jackson Colter led with 104 receiving yards.
