Diego Simeone has kept the door open for Julian Alvarez to leave Atletico Madrid before the transfer window closes, with a move to Arsenal potentially helping make that happen.
Alvarez wants to move to Barcelona, but the Spanish side has annoyed his current club with its approach, and Atletico have vowed that they will not allow him to join them.
Arsenal could therefore be in a position to sign Alvarez as the next best option for the attacker, who has been in fantastic form over the last few seasons and previously performed well in the Premier League.
After being jeered by Atletico fans in his first game back, Alvarez missed several days of training because he was sick and did not feature in their most recent match. His situation has therefore remained a major talking point as the transfer window approaches its conclusion.
However, Alvarez is back in full training and has made himself available to play for the Madrid club again. It remains unclear whether he has now given up on leaving Atletico at the end of this season.
Simeone keeps the door open
Simeone will do his best to support the attacker from a sporting perspective, but he does not have complete control over his future. The manager has also refused to rule out the possibility of a late development before the transfer window closes.
His comments suggest that Atletico must remain prepared for any eventuality, particularly while interest in Alvarez continues. Arsenal could potentially take advantage if the situation changes and the striker becomes available.

Arsenal could be an option
A move to Arsenal would give Alvarez another opportunity to play in the Premier League, where he has already shown his quality. The Gunners could also provide him with an alternative if his preferred move to Barcelona cannot happen.
Simeone said via The Sun:
“I’m not saying this now because of Julian, but I always say that something can always happen. Every year I say it.
“It’s football and something can always happen, but I’m not saying this for any special reason.”
Those comments leave the situation open as the deadline approaches. While Atletico remain determined over their position, Simeone’s words indicate that circumstances can still change, leaving Arsenal potentially in contention for Alvarez if he decides to leave.
