Concepcion certainly gave voters plenty to work with after the Browns selected him No. 24 overall in April.

Explosiveness, physicality, and post-catch playmaking were key traits that Monken continually praised in the rookie. Additionally, Concepcion has been deployed at various positions by the team, lining up as a screen, shallow route, and vertical receiver while also seeing action as a return specialist. All of this came into effect in the first preseason game against the Chicago Bears. He caught three passes for 27 yards and rushed for a 14-yard touchdown.
This was followed by yet another impressive display in the joint practice of the Browns against the Buffalo Bills. Watson found Concepcion with a deep pass down the middle, and the rookie won the contested catch to go for a good yardage gain. In another red zone period, Shedeur Sanders hit Concepcion on a screen pass for a touchdown.
That ability to make something happen with the ball in his hands is exactly why the Browns appear determined to get him involved early. Concepcion’s college résumé helps explain the confidence. After beginning his career at NC State, he transferred to Texas A&M for the 2025 season and finished with 61 receptions for 919 yards and nine touchdowns. He also added 75 rushing yards and another score.
There is still one obvious question hanging over the rookie’s potential impact: quarterback play. The Browns have settled on Watson to start, while Sanders remains part of the bigger picture. If the passing game becomes inconsistent, Concepcion could struggle to get the volume expected from a first-round pick. That was even part of draft analyst Lance Zierlein’s worst-case scenario for him.
However, for now, the Browns have seen enough to feel good. The Maurice Bassett Award doesn’t guarantee Concepcion will become a star; however, after a camp filled with splash plays and growing expectations, the rookie has already made one thing clear: the Browns expect him to matter.
