Royals Win Eighth Straight Game With 11-7 Victory Over Tigers

The Kansas City Royals continue their hot streak of wins, grabbing their eighth straight victory with an 11-7 win over the Detroit Tigers at Kauffman Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Daniel Lynch got the start for the Royals, throwing 4.1 innings and striking out two while allowing two earned runs. He yielded a run in the first inning but was able to bear down and keep the Tigers off the board until the fifth.

By that point, Kansas City had already blown the game open. Multiple bloop singles, hit by Salvador Perez and Kyle Isbel, got the Royals on the board with a 2-1 lead. Salvador Perez recorded the seventh stolen base of his career to help get into scoring position.
Nick Loftin then blasted a three-run home run over the left-field fence to blow the game open 5-1.
In the fifth, Kevin McGonigle hit a two-run home run off reliever Mason Black to tie the game at five. Gleyber Torres and Hao-Yu Lee had RBIs to chip away at the Royals’ lead earlier in the inning.
Kansas City quickly responded, however. Vinnie Pasquantino nearly left the yard off the top of the wall in right-center field, giving the Royals a 6-5 lead. Salvador Perez recorded his second hit of the game to increase the lead to 7-5.
John Rave then stepped in with Salvador Perez at second base. Left-handed reliever Andrew Sears, making his big-league debut for the Tigers, made a mistake pitch, leaving an off-speed pitch over the inner half of the plate, which Rave then deposited deep over the right-field fence.
Rave celebrated with a big bat flip, and even elicited a reaction out of Perez, who quickly began jogging from second base. Kyle Isbel and Nick Loftin recorded RBI singles later in the game to help seal an 11-7 victory.
Kansas City has made some serious headway in the AL playoff race over this eight-game win streak. The Royals are now 11 games back in the AL Central, and 7.5 games back from the last wild card spot. There is still a lot left for the Royals to do to snatch a playoff spot, and it would be a historic run.
Seeing how well they hit the ball in terms of contact and power, especially with runners in scoring position, is a great example of how they’ve been able to pull off so many wins. The Royals have outscored opponents 47-27 over their last eight games.
