Caitlin Clark has been touted as one of the faces of the WNBA ever since she entered the league in 2024. However, many believe that she isn’t treated like a superstar by the league or even by her own coach, Stephanie White.

President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Lea Trump, spoke up on what she believes to be unfair treatment toward Clark on her show, ‘The Right View.’

Lara Lea Trump Calls Out The WNBA Over ‘Unfair’ Treatment Of Caitlin Clark

On her show, Trump said, “Caitlin Clark came along. People started becoming interested in the WNBA for the first time ever. This is a league that consistently loses money because people are not interested in it. As a woman, I’m telling you the truth; that’s what it is.”

Clark, in her rookie season, did have a massive financial impact on the league.

In May 2025, Ryan Brewer, an associate professor of finance at Indiana University Columbus, calculated that Clark was responsible for 26.5% of the WNBA’s economic activity in 2024. This included revenue from merchandise, ticket sales, and television.

Trump continued by saying, “Clark started bringing the fans in, and what did we see happen? She was treated terribly by other players. Not just the players on the opposite team. Some of her own teammates. Her own coach doesn’t seem to stand up for her. The refs certainly are not on her side.”

This take from Lea Trump stems from a multitude of moments, such as when game officials failed to reprimand Alyssa Thomas immediately after she hit the Fever star in the throat during June 24’s Mercury-Fever game.

The refs did not call a foul on the play, which led to significant backlash. In the aftermath, Coach White said, “We have a generational talent and a WNBA superstar who had two cheap shots there that weren’t called.”

Postgame, the WNBA did assess a Flagrant 2 on Thomas. She was eventually suspended for one game and fined $1,000.

Another moment occurred during yesterday’s Wings-Fever bout where fans caught a seemingly testy moment between Coach White and Clark.

In the first quarter, during a play stoppage, White repeatedly tried to talk to Clark, who simply walked away from her. This isn’t the first time the two have had friction on the court.

The Fever’s 100-84 loss to the Portland Fire on May 30 featured a tense moment between the two. After the game, Clark did defend White, saying, “It was two people being competitive. Two people who really want to win. I think a lot of those things happen all the time.”

Clark has never publicly voiced frustration toward her coach or her players, though Lara Trump’s take on CC not being treated on par with her superstardom is widely recognized in the WNBA world.
