The Camden Catholic High School football team has added a former All-Pro to its coaching staff.

James Bradberry, who played eight years as a cornerback in the National Football League and earned a Super Bowl ring with the Philadelphia Eagles, has joined the Irish as an assistant coach for this season.

Bradberry is working with the team’s defensive backs and wide receivers.

According to Camden Catholic head coach John Martino, Bradberry was the one who reached out to the program about coaching.

“I kept waiting for one of my college buddies to pull up to practice, get out of their car and say ‘Gotcha!’” Martino said with a laugh. “(Bradberry) lives in Cherry Hill. He told us he’s not a golfer, he just wanted to give back and coach football at the high school level. I think he heard that we have some great things going on here at Camden Catholic and we’re so glad that he wants to be a part of it.”

Martino said his players have been “wide-eyed” for the last several days as Bradberry went right to work.

“He’s one of the most humble people on the planet,” Martino said about his new assistant coach. “Hiring James Bradberry, with his wealth of knowledge, it’s like hiring three coaches. Even if he wasn’t a former Eagle, I would have hired him.”

Bradberry, 33, logged 125 career games in the NFL, playing four seasons with Carolina and two with the New York Giants before closing out his career with the Eagles. He missed the entire 2024 season with injuries, but was on the roster and earned a Super Bowl ring. The defensive back had 19 career interceptions, including a pick-6 for the Birds.

“He stepped right in and the kids have taken to him. It’s a perfect match,” Martino said.

Camden Catholic went 2-9 during Martino’s first season with the Irish last fall. The team won two of its final three games.

The Irish will open the ’26 season with a game against Pennsauken during the Battle at the Boro showcase at Rowan University on Aug. 28. Kickoff is set for noon.

“We’re moving in the right direction,” said Martino, who previously was a teacher and assistant coach on the football team at Pennsauken. “I love these kids to death. They’ve bought into the culture we’ve been trying to build here. We will go to war and come out on the other side extremely successful.”
