LeBron James, 76ers Set for Emotional Home Opener Against Cavaliers

The NBA is slowly but surely releasing its schedule.
The Philadelphia 76ers are an important team to watch, as they have superstar forward LeBron James and All-NBA wing Jaylen Brown on the team. Not only are they featured in a triple-header season opener, they will also make an appearance on Christmas Day.

When James takes the court for Philadelphia’s first home game, it’ll be against a familiar foe.
The 76ers will face the Cleveland Cavaliers on October 22.
What a homecoming for James, as he not only faces his hometown team, but it’ll be in a Philadelphia jersey. James has had two previous stints with Cleveland and brought them their first championship in 2018 when they overcame a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors.
This will be a very interesting matchup that sees James and company take on All-NBA guard Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs. This will surely be a high-scoring game, as the Cavs finished in the Top 10 in offensive rating and the 76ers are projected to be a high-powered offense.
A huge unknown would be the possibility of having star guard James Harden on the team. If so, it could be this game that much tougher. But what it will allow us to see is how this team handles a high-powered offensive team like the Cavaliers.
Can the starting unit of All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey, Brown, James VJ Edgecombe, and former MVP center Joel Embiid provide enough physicality and harass the high-flying Cavaliers?
Mitchell is going to create problems for the Philadelphia defenders, as his relentless offense could cause havoc. This is why they went out to get a defender like Brown. It’s going to be Brown's time to shadow Mitchell to keep him at bay. If they can do that, it’s possible for them to run away with this game.
There’s no other player that can match the offense of the 76ers. If they contain Brown, then you have to address Maxey and Embiid. Maxey will have to go after Harden when and if he’s available, and that may be an easy target for Philadelphia as he struggles on the defensive side. While their first game comes against the New York Knicks, this game will give their fans a firsthand look at how this team will defend their homecourt.
With the schedule release leaving many fans excited for the season to start. This is going to be Philadelphia’s time to make a statement on their home floor.
