Basketbrawl broke out on Saturday when Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham was absolutely smoked with a hit to the face as she was going in for a layup by Chicago Sky player DiJonai Carrington.
The vicious smack sent Cunningham sprawling to the floor before she quickly got up and got in the face of Carrington, forcing several players and coaches to get between them. Cunningham appeared to ask Carrington “why the f*ck” she clobbered her like that as blood was spouting from her mouth; Carrington was assessed a Flagrant Two foul and booted from the game after the refs reviewed the slow-motion replay.
Cunningham made the layup despite getting pummeled, it’s worth mentioning. She then sarcastically clapped as Carrington made her way to the locker room.
The story didn’t stop there, though.
Carrington hopped on Threads minutes later and posted in all-caps “WHITE PRIVILEGE” while also tagging the Fever’s account.

Here is the comment which sparked the whole saga:
“I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I’m like, ‘I never once said that,’” [Cunningham] says. “I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”
Cunningham’s comment has been both praised and condemned, with some fans rallying in support of her and making her Adidas sneakers a must-have item. Others have criticized her for it, including one opposing coach who took a not-so-subtle shot at Cunningham last week by wearing a shirt declaring “Trans Kids Belong.”
Cunningham shrugged it off and took a picture with Outkick’s Riley Gaines after the game.
Outkick founder Clay Travis on Saturday slammed Carrington for the foul and for her social media post, saying it was “Blatant racism.”
“She should be out of the league for the rest of the year,” Travis posted on X. “But it’s the WNBA so she will probably get a five year contract extension.”
