Blue Adams speaks on coaching at FSU, state of CB room in camp

Florida State football did a big-time revamp of its coaching staff during the offseason. Blue Adams, who spent the last two seasons with the Michigan State Spartans as their secondary coach, was hired to be the new cornerbacks coach at FSU.
He hasn't landed a major prospect yet in recruiting, but multiple cornerbacks/defensive backs have praised him and his approach. At the moment, Adams is getting his unit ready for the regular season as they go through fall camp, and they need to be on point for the Seminoles to make a turnaround from a 5-7 campaign.

He recently discussed several topics. One of them was about what it's like being a coach at Florida State, and he doesn't take it for granted.
"Oh man, I thought you was about to ask me what did I feel when they told me I was coming to Florida State. Florida State. I get an opportunity to coach at Florida State. THE Florida State University. I'm living the dream right now. I'm living the dream. I'm living the dream. North Florida is North Florida, you know. Situation is always going to be the situation. I can't control that. But what I can control is an opportunity to go out there and lead men. You know, get guys to play better. And so it's a daily battle to do just that," Adams said.
Ja'Bril Rawls is the No. 1 corner in the room, and he's looking to build off the year he had in 2025 before a season-ending shoulder injury. Transfer Nehemiah Chandler and Quindarrius Jones will each man the other starting spot, and Charles Lester will also need to contribute.
Adams talked about where his players are with less than a month before the season starts.
"I think we're battling, you know," said Adams. "I think we're doing some good things out there. I think consistency is one of the things I would say that we continue to search with in terms of just getting guys to play more consistent with great technique. And so that's kind of the agenda of the day. Play with great pad level. Play consistent. Let's take this ball away as much as we can. And so that's always on the forefront of what we do."
Despite a terrible season a year ago, Florida State's defense finished No. 29 nationally and allowed just 190 passing yards per game. However, a new season brings new players and exceptions, and that's what Adams is working to get right, especially going into his first year in Tallahassee.
He mentioned that his group is making progress in camp, but they still have some fine-tuning to do.
"I think accepting some success," Adams said. "Like we've been good. We're not where we want to be. We're not great yet. But we've had some success. Makes it a lot easier when I say, hey, this is what we're doing. Just trust me on it. Because of the success that we've had. And so just being consistent. Now taking that success. Not being satisfied with that success. And just moving forward."
If Adams can get this unit to gel, look for a significant leap in FSU's defensive performance.
