Twins set to call up top prospect Kaelen Culpepper

The Twins did not make a move to address their position player group ahead of the deadline, but they will on Friday, when they’re expected to call up top prospect Kaelen Culpepper.

Culpepper, 23, was the Twins’ first-round pick in 2024. He is considered among the top 50 prospects in Major League Baseball and was the Twins’ No. 2 prospect to begin the year, per MLB Pipeline, behind just St. Paul teammate Walker Jenkins.
In 74 games this season at Triple-A, Culpepper has slashed .271/.367/.478 with 14 home runs and 46 RBIs. It’s likely Culpepper would have gotten the call sooner but two separate stints on the injured list for a glute injury slowed his path to the majors.
The Twins begin a three-game series at Milwaukee tonight.
While Culpepper has played second and third base, he has primarily played shortstop throughout the course of his minor league career.
Shortstop has been somewhat of a revolving door for the Twins this season. Brooks Lee started the year there but after struggling defensively was shifted him to third base. The Twins used Tristan Gray and Ryan Kreidler there for some time, before Kreidler, the better defender, took over the position primarily.
