One former Los Angeles Lakers star is elated after the franchise has emerged as a top destination for Klay Thompson.

NBA sharpshooter Klay Thompson is currently under contract with the Dallas Mavericks, but he’s expected to leave the franchise following a disappointing two-year stint with the team.

In fact, Thompson is reportedly finalizing a contract buyout with the Mavericks to enter free agency and begin the final chapter of his NBA career.

Metta World Peace reacts to LA Lakers showing interest in Klay Thompson

Thompson, 36, is certainly out of his prime, but he can still shoot lights out on his day. After all, Thompson shot 38.3% from the three-point line during the 2025-26 NBA season.

The Lakers will certainly benefit from pairing Thompson with the Luka Doncic-Austin Reaves duo, as the veteran guard is expected to join the Purple and Gold after clearing waivers following a buyout.

Upon learning the news, Kobe Bryant’s former teammate and 2010 NBA champion, Metta World Peace a.k.a., Ron Artest wants a Thompson jersey.

Right now, Klay to the Lakers is a rumor, as he previously turned down the team by choosing the Mavericks after parting ways with the Golden State Warriors.

Apart from the Lakers, the Miami Heat are also heavily interested in the 36-year-old’s services.
