Three people have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a NEET aspirant from Madhya Pradesh in Uttar Pradesh's Chitrakoot district, while police have dismissed claims circulating on social media regarding a viral video linked to the case.

Alleged assault in valley
According to reports, the incident took place in the Devangana Valley area under the Bahilpurwa police station limits. The victim had reportedly travelled to Chitrakoot to meet her boyfriend, and the two had gone to the valley when they were allegedly intercepted by a group of men.
The victim alleged that three youths first restrained her boyfriend and later called three more accomplices to the spot. She further alleged that she was sexually assaulted in front of her boyfriend. Reports also claimed that a video of the incident was uploaded to Instagram and that passers-by failed to intervene despite repeated pleas for help.
Questions over security
The area where the incident allegedly occurred is located near an airstrip and a circuit house. Reports have also raised questions about the absence of police patrols at the time of the alleged crime.

The Chitrakoot Police, however, said claims being circulated on social media platforms, including X, Facebook, and Instagram, were misleading. In an official statement, the police urged people not to share unverified information and warned that the dissemination of false and misleading content could invite legal action.
Officials clarified that the three accused arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape have already been sent to jail.

The investigation into the case is continuing, and authorities have appealed to the public to rely only on verified information released through official channels.
