Oliver Kahn urges patience despite Klopp excitement as Germany begin new era

Following his official appointment on Friday, Jürgen Klopp has taken over as Germany’s new head coach, with hopes high that he can restore the national team to the summit of world football. The former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool manager has been tasked with leading a long-awaited revival after several disappointing tournament campaigns.

Klopp’s first appearance in the role generated plenty of excitement, with his introductory press conference helping to spark renewed optimism among supporters.
However, former Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has urged caution over expectations of an immediate transformation. While Kahn has no doubts about Klopp’s credentials, he believes the challenges facing German football extend far beyond the appointment of a new manager.
“Personally, I don’t think it’s as simple as many people imagine,” Kahn told BR during a charity golf tournament. “I think the problems run much deeper.”
Kahn believes the German Football Association must first address several fundamental questions about the future direction of the national team and its player development.
“What kind of players do we want to develop in the coming years? What kind of players do we want to have in general? How do we want to play football?” he asked.
Despite his measured outlook, Kahn remains confident Klopp can make a significant impact over time.
“He is a very experienced man who can certainly achieve a great deal,” said the former Bayern Munich goalkeeper, who also served as the club’s CEO after retiring from playing.
Klopp’s first match in charge is scheduled for September, when Germany travel to the Netherlands for a UEFA Nations League encounter.
