What LeBron James’ decision to leave Lakers means for Bronny James
· Yahoo Sports
LeBron James has informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he will be continuing his NBA career elsewhere. Though there was speculation that one of the all-time greats would play out his final career chapters in a new location, it’s still a major bombshell. Where he lands next is now America’s hottest new guessing game.

With the book closed on James’ Lakers career, it’s remarkable to realize that it spanned eight seasons. The highlight, of course, was the bubble title in 2020. Unless you just take the totality of the experience and how ridiculous it is that James’ game has barely dropped off even as he cruised past the age of 40.
Many are wondering what’s going to happen in regards to Bronny James, LeBron James’ son who was able to play with his father for two seasons. With his biggest supporter headed out of town, would the younger James follow suit? Would the Lakers decide to revisit his place on the team.
Bronny signed a four-year, $7.9 million contract during his rookie year. As of yesterday, his 2026-27 salary of $2.3 million became fully guaranteed. So if Los Angeles does want to go forward with zero Jameses instead of two, it’ll come with a financial penalty.
It’s going to be interesting to see what the younger James without his father will look like. Through two years he’s been an end-of-the-bench guy, averaging 2.7 points in 8.1 minutes of action. More interesting will be how the Lakers chose to construct a younger team around Luka Doncic, who is now 100 percent the face of the franchise.
