EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — The common word used to describe the University of Evansville men’s basketball team workouts this offseason has been “energy.”

“So far everybody has just been putting in work,” said sophomore guard Bryce Quinet. “Like head down, they’re hungry they want to come in and get right to work. and it’s been refreshing to just be around that environment honestly.”
The Purple Aces got off to a good start to the offseason by first doing what a lot of mid-major are struggling to do and that’s retain some of their core players. UE is returning four players from a season ago including starters Quinet and AJ Casey.
Evansville is in their second week of offseason workout. Two incoming freshman are scheduled to join the group next month to complete the team. The new look Purple Aces will consist of those four returners, four transfers, and six freshman. The now leaders in Casey and Quinet said the group already feels more connected than last year’s team and are committed to being better.
Casey said, “I think practice has definitely picked up. You know Rags (Coach David Ragland), he’s been really emphasizing that we put in the work you know to be where we want to be. So I think we’re doing a great job, you know guys are getting after it every single day. Whether it’s workouts or we’re playing right after. You know every single day it’s about competing, you know pushing one another.”
