With the win, the Nationals now improve to 38-35, marking the franchise's best record through the first 73 games since the 2018 season to set a new high in year one of the Blake Butera era. It also marks the first time since 2019 the Nationals sat three games above .500, while the team is 27-19 since April 25.

Seven different batters notched at least one hit in the win, including James Wood as he extends his hit streak to seven games. Nasim Nunez, meanwhile, finished 2-for-2 along with a walk as he has now recorded a hit in eight of his ten appearances through the month of June.

Andrew Alvarez moved to 2-0 with the result after tossing five strikeouts and five hits while allowing one earned run in four innings and 58 pitches, turning to Brad Lord who allowed a pair of runs and tossed two strikeouts in three innings.

After the Nationals got their first base runner on a single from Daylen Lile in the second, the Nationals would then grab the lead after Curtis Mead's two out single to center was enough to drive in both Nasim Nunez and James Wood for an early 2-0 lead.

The Royals then answered back in the fourth inning to cut the deficit in half before Lord's single given up in the fifth inning put Washington behind for the first time on the day. Yet once again, the Nationals answered right back.

After Keibert Ruiz then Nasim Nunez opened the sixth inning with consecutive singles, James Wood drew a walk to load the bases, setting up Luis Garcia Jr. with the two-run RBI single into left field to put Washington back on top. Three batters later, Dylan Crews would clear the bases with a 366 foot three run home run, marking his fourth of the season, third of the month and second within a week to push the Nationals ahead convincingly, 7-3.

Clayton Beeter came out in the eighth inning where he allowed one walk before strikeouts both opened and closed the inning, setting the stage for Gus Varland to pick up the save in the win.

Washington will now look to pick up the fourth consecutive series win, along with nine over the last 11, when the two teams meet again for a 6:45 PM opening pitch.
