IRAN WAR: Israeli attack kills peacekeeper after renewed Lebanon ceasefire

One person is dead and another wounded after an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon on Thursday.
The attack comes hours after Israel and Lebanon agreed to a renewed ceasefire on Wednesday. The ceasefire would only occur if a “complete cessation” of fire by Iran-backed Hezbollah is achieved. Evacuation of Hezbollah’s operatives from southern Lebanon was also needed before a ceasefire begins.
While a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon has been agreed to in principle, peace talks between Iran and the United States remain in flux.
Meanwhile, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution to limit President Donald Trump’s war powers on Iran, a significant rebuke of how he’s handled the Middle East conflict.

Lebanese president awaiting Hezbollah response
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said he’s awaiting a response from Hezbollah to a potential ceasefire pact with Israel, which could start within 24 hours if the militant group agrees to it.
Speaking to a small group of reporters on Thursday morning, Aoun said he is awaiting a response from all affected parties before making a formal announcement that an agreement has been reached, CBS News reported.
Peacekeeper dead, two injured after mortar attack
Hours after a renewed ceasefire was agreed to between Israel and Lebanon, a United Nations Interim Force peacekeeper was killed and two others were injured after a mortar shell hit their position near Marjayoun in southern Lebanon.
“Soon after the incident that happened late last night, the critically injured peacekeeper was flown to a hospital in Beirut where he succumbed to his wounds,” UNIFIL said in its statement, per CNN .
UNIFIL said it is investigating the incident’s details, indicating it has detected an increasingly high number of trajectories and impacts in South Lebanon.
House votes to limit Trump’s war power
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution on Wednesday to limit President Donald Trump’s war powers on Iran, a significant criticism to how he’s handled the Middle East conflict.
The vote was 215 to 218 with four Republican representatives: Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett and Warren Davidson, crossing party lines to support the resolution, CNN reported.

The U.S. Democratic Party had repeatedly forced votes to limit Trump’s war powers at both House and Senate levels.
On Thursday, Trump took to Truth Social to chastize the four Republicans who defied him.
“Yesterday, in a meaningless vote, the House voted, 4 bad Republicans and all of the Dumocrats, to limit my War Powers, right in the middle of my final negotiations to end the War with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump wrote. “Who would do such an unpatriotic thing. They know where the negotiations stand. The Democrats are fueled by Trump Derangement Syndrome. They would rather have our Country fail than give me another, of many, victories. The four Republicans, that’s a whole other story – They’re GRANDSTANDERS! They should be ashamed of themselves.”
