Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Beck could be key to draft picks signing

· Yahoo Sports

As the Arizona Cardinals put a wrap on the second of three weeks of OTAs (organized team activities), they still have two draft choices to sign: quarterback Carson Beck (third round) and defensive lineman Kaleb Proctor (fourth).

Leaguewide, only 48 of 257 draft picks remain unsigned. Of that total, there are 11 in both the third and fourth rounds that haven’t signed. What’s notable is that the first six choices in the third round are unsigned (Beck was the first pick in the round) and the first seven in Round 4 (Proctor was fourth) have yet to sign.

In 2025, the final pick in the second round, Philadelphia Eagles safety Andrew Mukuba, had 58.6 percent of his four-year contract guaranteed. However, the first choice in the third round, New York Giants defensive lineman Darius Akexander, had only 23.0 percent of his deal guaranteed, which was in his signing bonus. The rest of the round fell in line.

This year’s final pick in the second round, Seattle Seahawks safety Bud Clark, had 69.4 percent of his contract guaranteed.

It’s not a stretch to believe that the logjam at the top of the third round is because Beck’s agents are seeking to have more than his signing bonus guaranteed.

History was broken last year when the first eight second-round picks received totally guaranteed contracts. This year, the first 16 got full guarantees.

The Cardinals are likely trying not to begin the third round with more guaranteed dollars than the signing bonus. Meanwhile, other agents are biding their time to see how things play out.
