Glasner praises his players after ending Crystal Palace tenure with Conference League trophy

Oliver Glasner insisted ‘the players deserve all the credit’ after signing off from Crystal Palace with UEFA Conference League triumph.

It was the manager’s final game in charge of the club and a fitting end to his reign. The Eagles had never won any major trophies when the Austrian coach arrived, now they have won the FA Cup, Community Shield and UEFA Conference League in the space of little more than 12 months.

“I just guided this group of players and the staff and I supported them,” said Glasner. “Really it’s my 100% conviction that I can’t do anything alone.

“I could be the best magician but it wouldn’t work without the players.

“The players deserve all the credit because they have to listen, they have to trust me and my staff.

“They have to work very hard. I think every player will tell you I’m very demanding. If things don’t go how I think they should go or if players drop the standards one or two percent, I can’t accept it.

“Sometimes they are a little upset with me but in the end they know I want the best for every single one and I want the best for the team.”

A second-half strike from Jean-Philippe Mateta proved decisive in the final as Palace overcame Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in Leipzig.

“We created a fantastic spirit and always increased the standard,” continued Glasner.

“This is what I see as my job, to get everybody aligned in the way we are playing, the way we are attacking, the way we are defending and get everybody aligned in the mindset.

“You need talented footballers but also great characters. They deserve all the credit.”

“I have to say thank you to the players. I have to say thank you to the supporters. Another incredible day for me and my family.”
