Colorado Rockies game no. 43 thread: José Quintana vs Mitch Keller
· Yahoo Sports
The Colorado Rockies are on a three-game losing streak after losing last night to the Pittsburgh Pirates because Paul Skenes did the things that Paul Skenes does. The Rockies were no-hit—and had just one baserunner via a hit by pitch—until a Mickey Moniak single in the seventh inning

However, Skenes is now out of the way for the series and the Rockies will hopefully have the chance to steal a game or two in the Steel City.
Left-handed veteran José Quintana will start this evening for the Rockies. Quintana has quietly settled into a quality rhythm over the last month despite a somewhat bumpy start. In his last three outings he has gone at least five innings deep and given up two or fewer earned runs each time. Though not exactly a strikeout machine, he’s dialed back the walks and largely kept opposing batters from scoring even if they reach.
Quintana’s last outing came against the New York Mets, where he gave up just two earned runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings of work.
Making the start for the Pirates is the right-handed Mitch Keller, who is off to an excellent start this season. Keller has made eight starts in 2026 with six Quality Starts. He’s failed to make it through the sixth inning just twice and has only given up more than three earned runs one time so far. He enters today’s contest with a 2.87 ERA with 35 strikeouts over 41 innings.
Keller has had no problem with the Rockies throughout his career. In five appearances—four of which were starts—he has an ERA of just 1.91 with 26 strikeouts in 28.1 innings. His primary pitch is a low-to-mid 90s four-seam fastball that he supplements with an absolute barrage of breaking pitches including a sweeper, a sinker, a traditional slider, a curveball, a changeup, and a cutter. His curveball is particularly dangerous with a 44.4% whiff rate and a 30.8% put-away rate.
