The Los Angeles Rams made the controversial decision to draft Ty Simpson in the first round of the NFL Draft, shocking the entire league with their pick at No. 13 overall.

Instead of a wide receiver like Makai Lemon, who would've been a fun fit in Los Angeles, they went with the backup developmental QB out of Alabama.

However, despite the backlash, as ESPN's Matt Bowen highlighted, Simpson to the Rams is actually a great fit. But why is Simpson such a good fit in Los Angeles?

Why Ty Simpson is a great fit with Rams

"The Rams' QB room - and Sean McVay's system - are both positives for Simpson," Bowen writes. "... Once Simpson gets his chance to start, look for McVay to give him more defined reads and movement concepts. He'll be put in a position to see the entire field and deliver the ball on time."

While the Rams received significant backlash for this pick of Simpson in Round 1, and deservedly so, this might've been the best-case scenario for Simpson.

He gets to join an offense where he will be able to sit for a year and learn from some of the game's greatest minds.

Even if Matthew Stafford isn't the biggest fan of the Simpson pick, he can still be a great resource for Simpson during his rookie season.

And with the offensive genius of McVay leading the offense and Simpson's development, it would not be a surprise if the Rams were able to get a lot out of Simpson when he gets a chance to start.

Bowen also pointed out how the Rams offense with Stafford likes to run rollout passes, which is something that Simpson was able to do in college, and could utilize in the NFL.

If there were an NFL coach able to get the most out of Simpson, who's a big unknown with just 15 starts in his college career, it would be McVay and the Rams.

While the process of getting Simpson might not have been ideal, using the 13th pick to draft him, the outcome of Simpson on the Rams might be the best fit for the Alabama quarterback coming into the NFL.
