SEC softball rankings: How many teams will host NCAA regionals?

· Yahoo Sports

As the final weekend of the college softball regular season approaches, attention has started to turn to what the postseason could look like for the SEC.

The conference's tournament is next week in Lexington, Kentucky, before Selection Sunday, but there’s already buzz about how many teams the league could see not only make the NCAA tournament, but host regional games.

Currently, six of the top eight teams and nine of the top 16 in RPI are from the SEC.

There are still a couple of weeks of games to be played, but it’ll be fascinating to see how the deepest league in the sport shapes up.

Now, for this week’s SEC softball rankings:

1. Oklahoma

Record: 46-6, 18-3 SEC

Last week’s ranking: 1

The Sooners remain at the top of the SEC after sweeping Georgia this past weekend. That’s now four SEC series sweeps this season for OU, which has won all seven of its SEC series. The Sooners finish the regular season by traveling to face Texas A&M in a three-game series this week.

2. Alabama

Record: 44-6, 15-5

Last week’s ranking: 2

The Crimson Tide dropped a road series to Tennessee this past weekend, their first series loss in SEC play in 2026. But, Alabama showed just how dangerous it can be with a 12-0 run-rule win over the Volunteers last Saturday. The Crimson Tide is likely in for a bounceback this week as it hosts South Carolina for three games.

3. Texas

Record: 38-8, 15-6

Last week’s ranking: 3

The Longhorns swept lowly Kentucky on the road this past weekend. Texas infielder Katie Stewart set a new program single-season record with her 24th home run, while right-handed pitcher Teagan Kavan struck out seven in the series finale.

4. Arkansas

Record: 39-9, 13-8

Last week’s ranking: 4

The Razorbacks won a series against Missouri this past weekend, but fell in the finale, mustering only one run. Arkansas has now won seven straight SEC home regular-season series.

5. Florida

Record: 45-7, 16-5

Last week’s ranking: 5

The Gators secured a two-game series sweep over UCF this past weekend, shutting out the Knights in back-to-back games and allowing just four total hits over 14 innings. Florida’s pitching and offense both seem to be peaking at the right time.

6. Tennessee

Record: 40-8, 14-6

Last week’s ranking: 6

The Volunteers rebounded last Saturday and Sunday after being clobbered by Alabama last Friday. Tennessee secured the series win, becoming the first team to defeat the Crimson Tide in back-to-back games this season. Karlyn Pickens was dominant in relief Sunday, striking out 11 and allowing just one run.

7. Texas A&M

Record: 35-14, 15-6

Last week’s ranking: 7

The Aggies dropped their series at South Carolina last weekend. Texas A&M left 10 runners on base and was 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position in the rubber match Sunday and will try to get back on track by hosting Oklahoma this week.

8. Georgia

Record: 34-16, 10-11

Last week’s ranking: 8

The Bulldogs were swept by Oklahoma on the road last weekend, but showed they were more than capable of playing with the top-ranked Sooners. Georgia will get another chance at an upset when it hosts rival Florida this week.

9. Mississippi State

Record: 36-15, 8-13

Last week’s ranking: 10

The Bulldogs took 2 of 3 from LSU this past weekend. Mississippi State has been competitive in nearly every series this season and should notch another series win against rival Ole Miss this week.

10. LSU

Record: 33-16, 10-11

Last week’s ranking: 9

The Tigers avoided the sweep against Mississippi State, but dropped their first series in about a month and moved down a spot in the rankings. LSU should only add to its resume by closing the season against Auburn.

11. South Carolina

Record: 29-22, 7-14

Last week’s ranking: 11

The Gamecocks’ series win over Texas A&M came in dramatic fashion. South Carolina trailed for four innings of the rubber match before a walk-off win. The Gamecocks have now won two consecutive SEC series.

12. Ole Miss

Record: 30-22, 4-17

Last week’s ranking: 13

Mississippi took 2 of 3 from Auburn and Madi George was named SEC Freshman of the Week. George tallied a multi-home run game in the win over Southern Miss, before driving in six more runs in the series victory over the Tigers, headlined by a 3-for-3 and five-RBI showing in Game 2.

13. Auburn

Record: 25-24, 4-17

Last week’s ranking: 14

Auburn dropped 2 of 3 to Ole Miss. The Tigers finish the regular season against LSU.

14. Missouri

Record: 26-26, 8-13

Last week’s ranking: 12

Fresh off their win over Arkansas, the Tigers are hoping to finish the season over .500 when they host Tennessee this weekend.

15. Kentucky

Record: 26-28, 1-23

Last week’s ranking: 15

The Wildcats finished their regular season after being swept by Texas. Kentucky won only one SEC game and now awaits the conference tournament.
