Former Wisconsin Badger Serah Wiliams selected in WNBA draft

MADISON – Former Wisconsin Badgers women's basketball player Serah Williams was selected in the WNBA draft Monday, April. 13 at The Shed at Hudson Yards in Manhattan.

The 6-foot-4 forward, who spent her senior season at UConn, was taken by the Connecticut Sun in the third round with the 33rd pick. Williams was later traded to the Portland Fire, one of the league's expansion franchises.

This season Williams averaged 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game and made 58.8% of her shots to help the Huskies reach the Final Four. She posted a season-high 14 points on 7-for-8 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds against Georgetown in the opening round of the Big East tournament.

At Wisconsin, she averaged 16.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in 91 contests for UW. She was a all-Big Ten first team selection as a sophomore and junior and the conference's defensive player of the year as a sophomore.

The UConn experience, however, allowed Williams to show her athleticism, versatility and ability to defend on a bigger stage.
