Hard to believe, but the NFL draft is less than three weeks away in Pittsburgh. Set for April 23-25, the event will have some Illinois flavor. And for the first time in a long time, a quarterback from the school is expected to be drafted.
In his latest rankings, 's Jordan Reid puts Luke Altmyer eighth among the quarterbacks.
First, of course, is Indiana's Fernando Mendoza, who is expected to go to the Las Vegas Raiders. The No. 2 quarterback is Alabama's Ty Simpson, who Reid projects being picked by Arizona.
The next Big Ten quarterback on the list is Penn State's Drew Allar, who Reid expects to go off the board late in Day 2 or early in Day 3. So, the third and fourth rounds.
Altmyer is expected to go early to mid rounds on Day 3. Reid puts San Francisco as the best team fit for Altmyer.
Reid mentioned the chance for Altmyer to have an extended NFL career.
Altmyer was listed four spots ahead of Heisman runner-up Diego Pavia of Vanderbilt.
