Thomas’ 2025 had its highs and lows. He returned to the winner’s circle at the RBC Heritage and had three second-place finishes on the season. But Thomas was uncompetitive at the majors, missing the cut at the US Open and PGA Championship.

He missed the West Coast swing, but now Thomas is officially back in action. He played in TGL this week and announced there that he’ll make his first start on the PGA Tour at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on March 5.

And after his TGL match, Rory McIlroy reacted to this news.

How Rory McIlroy reacted to Justin Thomas’ PGA Tour return announcement

After watching Thomas’ Atlanta Drive GC beat his Boston Common Golf in their latest TGL match, McIlroy reacted to the news that Thomas would be making his PGA Tour return in March.

The Masters champion said, “Yeah, it’s great. Obviously, he’s been out for a little while, but it looks like his rehab has went really well. Looks like he’s going to tee it up next week at Bay Hill for the first time.

“So yeah, great to have him back out here. Obviously, he’s been one of the best players over the last decade, and it always sucks when you have to go through something like that and have surgery, but it looks like he’s come out the other side and looks like he’s feeling pretty good. So yeah, it’s great to have him back.”

Thomas’ swing looked as good as ever during TGL, so hopefully he’s back to full fitness and able to play freely when he returns to the tour. The game is certainly in a better place when he’s in contention.

Billy Horschel reacts to Justin Thomas’ PGA Tour return

The subject of Thomas’ return was put to a number of tour players at TGL, including eight-time winner Billy Horschel.

Speaking after his match, Thomas’ teammate said, “Listen, it’s great. JT is one of the biggest stars in the game of golf. I’ve said it for many years; I think his talent when he’s on, he can compete with anyone. His short game, his ability to hit iron shots, I think he’s an unbelievable talent. I’ve talked about it for years.

“To see him obviously injured – like I said, this team has been injured this year. The only guy that hasn’t is Chris Gotterup, and as Lucas said, we’ve got to wrap him up in bubble wrap a little bit and protect him from us.

“But I think JT was itching to play. Obviously, anyone who’s been on the sidelines, you’re itching to play, and it was nice to see him come, and he played well. The three guys played really well at the 5 p.m. match against a really good squad, and I think his game looks very sharp in here.

“I’m sure, like all golf fans, we’re interested to see how it looks in a couple weeks at Bay Hill and The Players Championship.”

With The Players and The Masters right around the corner, Thomas will be hoping that he can quickly round into form and compete straight away.
