Surprise Dodgers Prospect Predicted to Take Roster Spot in 2027
· Yahoo Sports
The Los Angeles Dodgers have plenty of spots to fill on their roster ahead of the 2027 season, and MLB.com’s Sonja Chen believes Zach Ehrhard could take one of those spots.
“Ehrhard, the team’s No. 15 prospect who spent all of the past season with Triple-A Oklahoma City, could be an option to add a right-handed bat to the bench,” Chen wrote.

Chen predicted MLB No. 4 prospect Josue De Paula to claim a starting spot in the outfield, putting left-handed bats in each of the corner outfield spots. Teoscar Hernandez and Alex Call are right-handed bats who could make up the difference, but Chen only predicts one—or neither—of those two to have a spot on the team next year.
“That leaves one spot for Hernández or Call — although both have an unclear fit,” she wrote. “If the Dodgers are comfortable with their outfield mix skewing young, then they could potentially move on from both of them.”
Oklahoma City’s Zach Ehrhard drives in a run during a minor league baseball game between the Oklahoma City Comets and the Albuquerque Isotopes at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, Friday, March 27, 2026.Who is Zach Ehrhard?
Ehrhard, 23, came to the Dodgers at the 2025 trade deadline alongside James Tibbs III in the trade which sent Dustin May to the Boston Red Sox. He finished the year in Double-A, hitting five homers and driving in 20 runs while posting a solid .857 OPS.
He spent the entirety of 2026 in Triple-A, playing 138 games with the Comets. The prospect had a great year, hitting 20 homers and tallying 933 RBIs while posting a .872 OPS—his best over the course of a full season at any level.
Why Zach Ehrhard Over the Dodgers’ Other Prospects?
Tibbs is another solid option for the Dodgers’ outfield, as he has experience playing on the grass and had a great year in Triple-A, but as a left-handed hitter, he’d be a little redundant on the roster.
Mike Sirota is another option for the Dodgers, but he only came up to Triple-A at the end of the season, so the Dodgers probably want to give him more time in the minors before he gets the call.
Other than those two, most of the Dodgers’ other outfield prospects are too young and inexperienced to get a shot in the bigs yet.
Would you want to see Ehrhard in the majors? Or should a different prospect take the spot.
