Pistons punish turnovers, as Hornets fall to Detroit on the road 97-89

After two consecutive wins to finish their three-game homestand, the Charlotte Hornets looked to make it three in a row Wednesday night on the road against the Detroit Pistons. While the Hornets were still without Coby White, Kon Knueppel and Grant Williams, the Pistons were without two of their main contributors, Isaiah Joe and All-Star center Jalen Duren.

The two sides were pretty evenly matched throughout the first half, as Brandon Miller led Charlotte to a seven-point lead at the break. However, things unraveled in the third quarter, as Detroit outscored the Hornets 32-19, with Duncan Robinson and Paul Reed knocking down a pair of triples each. From there, the Pistons wouldn't relinquish the lead, holding on to win 97-89.

Giveaways were once again the biggest weakness for the Hornets, as they lost the turnover battle 25-14. Charlotte also could have used a secondary scorer, having finished the contest with only two players in double figures.

Brandon Miller ended the night with a game-high 31 points to go along with 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Dennis Schroder was the team's next highest scorer, finishing with 14 points, five assists and four rebounds.

As expected, Cade Cunningham led the way for the Pistons, tallying 30 points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals.

Looking ahead, the Hornets will face the Washington Wizards on the road Friday.
