Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy led his team to a World Series victory. Milwaukee won its first championship on Wednesday after defeating the Tampa Bay Rays in five games in the Fall Classic. Jake Bauers — who is set to enter MLB free agency — played a significant role throughout the season for the Brewers. A moment on the field after the game captured Murphy’s message for Bauers — and the message also shaded the New York Yankees. It was shared by Spectrum News 1 Wisconsin.

“Just remember, when you’re on that horses**t Yankees team and you guys are all playing for yourselves, just remember this is the way we used to do it,” Murphy told Bauers.

Of course, it isn’t uncommon for star players to have big contract seasons with a small-market team such as the Brewers and go on to sign with a big-market ball club like New York. It will be interesting to see if Bauers will think twice before signing with the Yankees specifically — if New York displays interest in him — after hearing Murphy’s message.

Bauers hit .266 with an .874 OPS and 26 home runs during the regular season. He made a big impact in the postseason as well despite an up and down World Series, as Bauers won the National League Championship Series MVP. The left-handed slugger has certainly earned the opportunity to experience free agency and land a lucrative contract.

Given how much success he found in Milwaukee, though, one has to wonder if the Brewers will attempt to re-sign him.
