Bayern Munich star Harry Kane wins the Spanish version of the Ballon d’Or

Ahead of the 2026 Ballon d’Or awarding ceremony, Bayern Munich star Harry Kane is the favorite to win the award. Interestingly, the Englishman picked up the Spanish equivalent of the Ballon d’Or by winning the “100 Marca” award presented by Spanish news outlet Marca (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia):

🏆 Harry Kane has won the ‘100 Marca’ award by @marca for the best player of the 25-26 season. Kane was voted by an international jury of 226 members, including journalists from MARCA, journalists from many other media outlets in Spain and around the world, former footballers, and coaches.

This award is like the Ballon d’Or in many ways: the voting and point-scoring systems, the evaluation period (the full 2025/26 season), and, to an extent, the number of nominees. As the name suggests, Kane emerged as the best player out of 100 players on Marca’s shortlist, compared to the Ballon d’Or, which lists 30 players.

Interestingly, Kane finishing in first place meant he beat fellow Ballon d’Or contenders Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé, who finished second and third behind the Englishman in a poll where a good chunk of the panel is made up of journalists across Spain. Could we see the same rankings on Monday?
